Mare Internum – Table of Silence
A boat – a memorial to the victims of the sea and a symbol of chance – and a hundred white plates, will represent the core of Mare Internum/Table of Silence, as a result from the cooperation between Rossella Vasta and the boat-builders from Lampedusa Francesco Tuccio and Giuseppe Balestrieri.
Every year The Table of Silence, an installation of a hundred white ceramic plates hand-decorated by the Sicilian artist Rossella Vasta, is mounted all over the world moving from Country to Country as a true table inviting to peace and fraternal sharing. Among them so far the United States and Japan.
The boat was realized by the boat-builders from Lampedusa with wood inserts coming from the boats that shipwrecked on Lampedusa’s coasts. It will be laid on a basis of sand.
